Stamford Stable Door
A Bespoke Hardwood Door for a Period Farmhouse
This project involved making a bespoke hardwood stable door and frame for a period farmhouse in Stamford. The aim was to create a new entrance door that felt appropriate to the age and character of the property, while giving the client the practical use and durability of a newly made piece of joinery.
The stable door format gives the entrance a traditional farmhouse quality, with the upper section able to open independently from the lower door. This makes it useful for ventilation, light and everyday access, while still feeling secure and properly enclosed when shut.
Both the door and frame were made to suit the existing opening, with simple glazing bars, vertical boarding and traditional moulded details giving the piece a familiar, understated character. The proportions were kept calm and practical, so the new door sits naturally within the surrounding brickwork.
The door and frame were spray finished to match the existing windows on the property, helping the new joinery feel connected to the rest of the house. The result is a clean, well-made stable door that feels traditional without being overly decorative, and practical without losing its period farmhouse charm.
