Slimline Double Glazing for a Listed Property
This project involved making new hardwood sash windows for a listed property in Rothley. The original windows formed an important part of the character of the house, so the work had to be approached carefully, with the new joinery designed to feel almost identical to what had been there before.
Rather than altering the appearance of the building, the aim was to improve the performance of the windows while preserving the original proportions, glazing pattern and external character. The frames, bars and surrounding details were made to suit the existing openings and sit naturally within the painted brick façade.
To meet the requirements of the property, the windows were made using slimline double glazing. This allowed the client to benefit from improved insulation and everyday comfort, without introducing heavy modern units that would look out of place on a listed home.
The finished windows keep the quiet, traditional appearance of the building, with painted hardwood joinery and carefully proportioned glazing that respects the age of the house. It is a practical repair and replacement project, but one where restraint was just as important as craftsmanship.
