Kitchen Settle and Dining Table
A Bespoke Corner Seat with Bookcase Storage
This project was designed to make better use of an awkward corner within the client’s kitchen, creating a more purposeful and comfortable place to sit, eat and gather. The fitted settle sits neatly beneath the window, turning an underused part of the room into a practical seating area with a calm, built-in feel.
Bookcase storage was added to either side, combining closed cupboards below with open shelving above. This gives the space everyday usefulness without making it feel heavy, allowing books, objects and household pieces to sit naturally within the kitchen.
After the seating area was completed, the client later commissioned a bespoke dining table to finish the corner properly. The table was made to suit the scale of the settle and the proportions of the room, creating a more complete and inviting arrangement.
The result is a cosy kitchen corner that feels considered rather than improvised. It gives the family somewhere informal to sit, talk, work or eat, while making much better use of the space available. Like much of the work at The Loughborough Joinery Company, it is a practical piece of fitted joinery shaped around the way the home is actually used.
