A One-Off Breakfast Bar Made for a Cottage Kitchen
This breakfast bar was commissioned as a one-off piece for a characterful cottage kitchen. Rather than using a standard freestanding table or off-the-shelf unit, the client wanted something made specifically for the room, with the proportions, finish and materials considered around the existing space.
The piece was designed and made in the workshop, using solid timber joinery with a painted base and a solid oak top. Its narrow depth allows it to sit comfortably beneath the window, creating a useful place to sit, prepare food or serve from without making the room feel crowded.
The design is simple and practical, with a long drawer for smaller everyday items and an open lower shelf below. The slatted shelf keeps the piece feeling lighter than a closed cupboard, while still providing useful storage at low level.
The oak worktop brings warmth against the painted frame and ties in with the traditional feel of the kitchen. As a made-to-measure piece, it feels settled into the room rather than added afterwards — a small, practical item of joinery made with the same care as a larger fitted project.
