A Made-to-Match Wardrobe for a Period Bedroom
This bespoke wardrobe was designed for a period bedroom in Loughborough, with the intention of matching an existing wardrobe elsewhere in the house. Rather than introducing something new or visually separate, the design was carefully developed to feel as though it had always belonged to the property.
The wardrobe uses traditional proportions, painted panelled doors, detailed cornicing and a stepped plinth to create a piece with a quiet Edwardian character. The scale was adjusted to make the most of the available wall space, providing generous storage while still feeling appropriate to the room.
Inside, the wardrobe combines closed hanging storage with open shelving, giving the client a practical mix of everyday use and accessible display or folded storage. The warm timber interior adds contrast to the painted exterior and gives the piece a more crafted, furniture-like quality when the doors are open.
Small details such as the chrome knobs, fine door margins and moulded profiles help the new joinery sit naturally alongside the character of the house. The finished wardrobe feels considered, useful and properly made — a fitted piece designed around the room, the client and the existing fabric of the home.
