Under-Stairs Dog Storage
Bespoke Storage for a Compact Family Home
The space beneath a staircase is often difficult to use well, especially in a busy family home where practical storage is needed but the hallway still needs to feel tidy and considered. This project was commissioned as a bespoke under-stairs unit, designed around the client’s dogs and the everyday items that come with them.
Rather than treating the dog crates as loose objects in the hallway, the design integrates them directly into the joinery. Each crate is given its own fitted bay, with the surrounding structure made to follow the line of the stairs and make full use of the available depth.
Open shelving above provides space for dog leads, bowls, baskets and decorative pieces, helping the unit feel like part of the home rather than purely functional storage. A cupboard section beneath the stair line gives additional concealed storage, keeping less attractive items neatly out of sight.
The warm timber finish brings softness to the hallway and sits comfortably against the painted stair, tiled floor and neutral walls. The result is a compact, practical and characterful piece of fitted joinery — made around the way the family actually lives, while keeping the entrance space calm and organised.
